Concept
Low poly, cute. Mushrooms meets Strawberry Shortcake.
My initial idea was to work with purple and yellow, but I wasn't completely satisfied with how it looked like. When searching for other color combinations, I loved the pink, green and orange palette. However, I felt like the colors didn't suit the original design, so I changed the hair and the hat to get to a version that felt just right.
Modelling
I used Maya for modelling. I learned a lot during the process and I tried to follow as many topology tips as possible.

UV and Texturing
I took the liberty of stacking the symmetrical UV shells, to optimize for space. I then used Photoshop for texturing, only using base colors.
Rigging
I used the Advanced Skeleton plugin for Maya to rig my character and added joints and controls for the pigtails as well. I still needed to paint skin weights, since the tool didn't automatically give the best results in this case.
Animating
For my first time doing animation, I wanted to experiment with essential animation types in games: walk, run, jump, idle.
For the jumping animation I had a very specific parkour move in mind, so it proved to be the perfect opportunity to follow a video reference and get into that workflow.
Software:

Maya (modeling, animating)
Advanced Skeleton (rigging)
Adobe Photoshop (texturing)
